In Honor of Pride Month, June 29, 2019

Pride is for blood, sweat and sacrifice
For all the struggles, all the fights
Just to get basic civil rights

Pride is to celebrate the progress
The community has made in the 50 years
Since the riots at Stonewall

Pride is to commemorate
All the tragedies throughout time
From HIV/AIDS, to hate crimes

Pride is to remember
All those who have lost their lives
Just for being who they are

Pride is for diversity, freedom, inclusivity
Respecting each person’s individuality
Demanding nothing but equality

Pride is for having the courage
To embrace your true self
To be yourself and no one else
To live your life and love your mate

So yes be very proud
You are perfect the way you are
Raise your head and stand tall
